New Toyota Platinum Etios / Liva Twins : Nifty Upgrade

New Toyota Etios and Liva Platinum launched in India - all the details including price, features, technical specs, variants and other details 

The popular Toyota Etios twins (sedan and Liva hatchback), first launched in India back in 2010, just got a major refresh, and are now called the Platinum Etios.

In its new avatar, the Brand New Platinum Etios offers styling enhancements, along with added comfort, convenience and safety features. The upgraded Etios twins are said to have been worked upon by Indian engineers, while customer feedback has been given paramount importance for the local team to work on.

The Brand New Platinum Etios has been launched with prices starting from INR 6,43,000 to INR 7,83,000 for the petrol variants and INR 7,56,000 to INR 8,96,000 for the diesel variants. (Ex-showroom, Mumbai).

On the other hand, the Brand New Platinum Etios Liva comes with prices starting from INR 5,24,000 to INR 6,28,000 for the petrol variants and INR 6,61,000 to INR 7,44,000 for the diesel variants. (Ex-showroom, Mumbai).

Design & Interiors

On the outside, the Brand New Platinum Etios gets a comprehensively redesigned front fascia that is highlighted by a new, aggressively styled front bumper with chrome garnishes that make the Etios look decidedly up-market. The new front bumper is complemented by an updated grille with a chrome upper lip (for Platinum Etios), new alloy wheels (for Platinum Etios Liva), a mildly redesigned rear bumper and a new rear chrome garnish with reflectors (for Platinum Etios)

Inside, the Platinum Etios builds on the Etios’ best in class cabin space, and adds a foldable rear armrest for extra comfort to the rear passengers. The dashboard is now finished in black and ivory to give off a premium air. The ivory theme extends to the new seat fabrics as well, while the rear seats can now be folded for added practicality. As for updates to the instrumentation, the New Platinum Etios gets the new ‘Optitron Combimeter’ that includes a digital tachometer and an analog speedometer with graphic illumination; visible at all times, both with the head lamps switched on or off.


The Brand New Platinum Etios comes loaded with features like optional reverse parking sensors that makes parking in tight spots a breeze, electrically foldable ORVMs that allow for smoother navigation through tight corners and narrow lanes, along with AC with multidirectional vents that offer effective cooling through a 360 degrees rotating function.

Other notable features of the Brand New Platinum Etios include steering mounted audio controls, a height adjustable drivers’ seat, and a cooled glove box that maintains beverage/water temperature about 10 degrees lower than cabin temperature. As for boot space, the Platinum Etios’s boot can swallow up to 592 liters of luggage; a best-in-class figure.


When it comes to safety, the Etios was already one of the safest entry mid-size cars around, with a 4-star GNCAP safety award making it the only car in its segment to receive the award. Apart from that, the Toyota Etios bagged the number one position in the Most Dependable Car in the Entry Mid-Size Segment according to J.D. Power Asia Pacific’s 2015 India vehicle dependability study.

The Brand New Platinum Etios follows that tradition by offering a host of safety features. In addition to standard Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS) with Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD), dual front airbags for driver and passenger are also offered as standard fitments on the Brand New Platinum Etios.

All three rear seats have a removable headrest designed to improve comfort and reduce injury in case of a collision, while the new central locking system is conveniently placed on the instrument panel to ensure speedy unlocking in the event of a collision. Other notable safety and security features include front seat belts with pretensioners & force limiters, a child restraint system with two ISOFIX mounts, an engine immobilizer, and keyless entry.

Engines & Mileage

The Brand New Platinum Etios is powered by a choice of two engines – a 1.5-liter petrol engine rated at  88 bhp and 132 Nm of torque, along with a 1.4-liter diesel engine rated at 67 hhp and 170 Nm torque. Both engines are mated to a five speed manual transmission.

The petrol variant of the Brand New Platinum Etios delivers a fuel efficiency figure of 16.78 km/l, while the diesel variant delivers a fuel efficiency figure of 23.59 km/l (both ARAI-certified figures).
