Opel 1.6 Litre Diesel Engine in Pipeline

It has emerged that Opel plans to replace its 2.0 litre diesel engine with a new 1.6-liter unit. The new 1.6 litre motor will be 10% more fuel efficient and Opel claims that its new engines will “set benchmarks for refinement, performance and environmental compatibility.”

Not much is known about the upcoming motor but speculations are afloat that the new engine will be based on the 1.6-liter gasoline engine that powers the Astra.

The Opel Zafira MPV will become the first car to use this engine and we can safely expect the new engine to come out before 2015.
