Volkswagen introduces ‘comfortline’ variant in Vento diesel sedan. All India ex showroom price of INR 8.74 lakhs

Volkswagen India recently introduced the Comfotline (middle of the range) variant in the diesel version of the Vento sedan. It may be noted that it took German biggie almost two years to introduce the middle variant of its popular sedan. Till now, only Trendline (base) and Highline (top end) trim level were available in the diesel version of this car. What has really raised our eyebrow is an ex showroom price of INR 8.74 lakhs that remains constant all over India save for in Maharashtra, where the car retails for INR 8.56 lakhs. The new variant gets body colored door handles and electric ORVMs, Radio/MP3 player, rear center arm-rest, front and rear fog lights, height adjustable driver seat over the Trendline variant. The diesel model of this car comes with a 105 bhp 1.6 Liter turbo diesel engine mated to a 5 speed manual gearbox. Many are seeing this as VW’s answer to the hot selling Skoda Rapid but I wonder if VW wants to eat into the sales of its sister concern. It may be noted that the Rapid retails for substantially lesser amount that the Vento and it will be interesting to see if the new variant of the VW sedan can lift sales of the car.

  1. They still miss Airbag and ABS-EBD in comfortline.. Which is a big miss according to me. All other cars in the segment provide Airbag-ABS from middle/first variant. So if one wants safety kits in the car, they have to search other brands.
