Yamaha MT25 with minimum camouflage
The quarter litre Yamaha YZF-R25 is likely to reach Indian shores this year. But will Yamaha let go of the lucrative entry level streetfighter motorcycle segment that has been on the rise ever since the introduction of KTM Duke series? No!
Yamaha has introduced the quarter litre offering, the YZF-R25 in the Indonesian market and is in plans to launch the naked variant of this sports motorcycle, MT25 (the anticipated name), soon. The recent sighting of this upcoming motorcycle was reported by Indonesian website Iwanbanaran. The motorcycle was doing its test runs on public roads and was stuck in traffic when it was snapped.
The Yamaha MT25 is the 250cc member of the MT series of motorcycles from the Japanese manufacturer. The MT25 is expected to be powered by the same motor that is found on the R25. A 249cc, parallel-twin, 8-valve, liquid-cooled engine capable of delivering 36PS of power and 22.5Nm of torque can be seen on the MT25. The engine will come mated to a six speed gearbox which will be re-tuned to match the character of a street motorcycle.

In terms of design, the MT25 will shed off the full fairing for the streetfighter look. The clip on bar will be replaced by a naked motorcycle style wide handlebar. Once launched, the MT25 will lock horns against Kawasaki Z250 and KTM Duke 390. We are not sure about the expected launch time frame of the MT25 for the Indian market but we sure hope it comes our way very soon, of course along with the YZF-R25. Don’t you agree?
