Royal Enfield developing a twin cylinder bike for Indian market

Popular bike maker Royal Enfield is thinking of coming up with a twin-cylinder bike for Indian market. The bike might be introduced as soon as in three years time. The bike is expected to come up with a 600cc to 1000cc pushrod engine.Recently, Chief executive officer of RE, Venki Padmanabhan told Autocar Professional that the new engine’s design will not be unlike the manufacturer’s current engines. “The dust will be brushed off from that model design and a new technology harnessed to make it uptodate for current buyers. The bike will be more aesthetically appealing than the older model. It will be a retro-practical leisure bike catering to the small niche buyers,” . Currently, RE is studying the market requirements for a high capacity twin cylinder bike. Pushrod engines have a characteristic of churning out max power at a lower rpm than conventional OHC motors. Pushrod engines usually have a rugged construction and offer high amount of torque. “It is the company’s R&D dream to make diesel engines ‘made for motorcycles’ and suitable for customers,” said Padmanabhan.

RE is surely getting closer to become an iconic bike maker.

  1. All the details? Where are all the details??? What about the diesel version, and when is the launch.. "Available soon" is awesome news but nothing concrete. Are they going to use the K9K in its Logan/Verito/Micra spec or is it going to deliver 100+ bhp? Would be nice if all this information is made available…
