Tata Punch Kaziranga Edition

RDE Compliant Motor Makes Its Way Into The Tata Punch

Launched in October 2021, Tata Punch has been a popular choice in the entry-level passenger vehicle segment in India. Being the automaker’s second bestselling offering, the Tata Punch now gets an update in terms of its engine.

Tata Motors has updated the small SUV’s 1.2-litre three-cylinder, naturally-aspirated petrol engine to meet the new RDE norms. This sort of news will now be commonly seen as the Real Driving Emission (RDE) standards under BS6 phase 2 will go into effect from April 1, 2023.

So, in order to be ready for the oncoming regulatory changes, more and more carmakers will be either updating their engines to comply with the norms or phasing them out completely.

About The RDE Engine

The RDE-compliant motor in the Punch will not only safeguard the environment but also reduce noise and vibrations. This will make the car more desirable and beneficial for buyers of the SUV.

The NVH levels of the car have significantly improved and the engine now feels less stressed than before. Interestingly, the placement of various components around the engine has been revised, and now, the engine bay of RDE-compliant Punch feels less packed and well put together.

The brand’s 1.2-liter NA petrol engine, which generates 86 bhp of power and 113 Nm of maximum torque, has not seen any changes in terms of specifications. This engine is paired with an AMT and 5-speed manual transmission.
