News and spy pics have been pouring in ever since Mahindra first announced that it is busy developing a mini-Xylo to take on the likes of Premier Rio and Renault Duster. Now that the Duster is here, can the mini Xylo be far behind? Hardly a few months away from its launch, a really important piece of info has emerged about the upcoming mini MPV.
While we had expected Mahindra to use a downsized version of the popular 2.2-litre, direct injection diesel motor that powers the entire line up of upmarket Mahindra UVs, namely the Xylo, Scoprio and XUV500, what has taken us by a pleasant surprise is the fact that forced induction on the 3 cylinder 1500cc motor is courtesy a twin turbo set-up that enables the engine to pump out a healthy power output of 100BHP@3750 RPM and generate a max. torque of 240 Nm between1600-1800 RPM. The powerplant of the mini Xylo is BS V compliant and the DOHC 3 cylinder engine tips the scales at merely 185 kgs. The mini Xylo should have a fuel efficiency figure of about 18 kmpl.
As we have been reporting, the new mini Xylo will be launched at the onset of Diwali season and will be positioned in the INR 5-7 lakhs price bracket.

I am betting the front will undergo significant changes before launch, because the car otherwise looks OK enough not to be a turn-off. Still, the proportions don't quite work do they?
