Regulars here would remember that we reported in detail when we recently got our hands on a new set of spy pics of the Foton Tunland pickup truck. Foton is China’s largest commercial vehicle manufacturer and is busy setting up a manufacturing facility at Chakan, near Pune. And today, spy pics of the Foton Tunland interiors have surfaced on cyber space.
The interiors seem to belong to the top-of-the-line variant of the Foton Tunland and seem to boast of high quality plastics. Overall, the interiors give the insides of Tunland a car-like look and should appeal to those in market for a premium pick up truck.
Internationally the Tunland is equipped with Airbags, ABS and EBD and boasts of a 3 stars rating in the ANCAP. It would be interesting to see if Foton would strip it down for India to keep the costs competitive.
The exterior design of the Tunland is such that it can easily pass off as a Tata Xenon when viewed from a distance. The Tunland sports a projector headlight setup and fog lights on the front. The rear is rather boring, housing chunky tail-lamps which don’t at all help in improving things.
Powering the Tunland is a Euro IV compliant Cummins 2.8 litre Turbo Diesel engine that has a max power of 160 BHP (120 KW) and peak torque of 360 NM. The engine is designed to last 500,000 kms, if adhered to the regular service interval of 5000 kms. It is mated to a 5 speed manual transmission supplied by Getrag (from Germany). The Tunland pickup is available in both 4×4 and 4×2 variants abroad.
The Tunland, which will be the first product from Foton in India, will be pitted against the Tata Xenon, Mahindra Scorpio Getaway and the Isuzu D-max. It is being said that soon after launching the Tunland, the manufacturer would bring a SUV to our country.
