Daimler not in race to acquire Ducati. Audi still a potential buyer

We have been closely following the developments preceding the sale of popular Italian bike maker Ducati. On Sunday, a leading news daily Corriere della Sera said that Daimler AG too may be interested in acquiring Ducati. This is soon after another German luxury car maker Audi has shown interest in the buying bike manufacturer.

However, Daimler was quick to deny any such interest.

We have no interest in a takeover of Ducati,” Marc Binder, a spokesman for Daimler said.

Also, another source has earlier said that Audi is almost all set to acquire Ducati for about 875 million euros.

Many parties around the world have shown interest in purchasing the manufacturer. However, Andrea Bonomi, Chairman, Investindustrial, told the Financial Times last month, “the further growth [Ducati] requires needs the support of a world-class industrial partner”.

If Audi decides to go ahead with the purchase of Ducati, first motorcycle brand will get added to the parent company VW’s nine-brand line up.
