All you need to know about Honda Amaze diesel

The Honda Amaze has to be among the most awaited cars of recent times. The upcoming car has a lot of ‘firsts’ to its credits. The Amaze will be the first lower C segment sedan from Honda Cars India. The upcoming entry level sedan will also become the first sub-4 metre sedan from the Indian subsidiary of Honda. Most importantly, the Amaze will also become the first diesel car from the automaker.

It may be noted that Honda Cars India has been fast losing out to rival manufacturers. This is mainly due to the fact that not a single car in the car maker’s line up has a diesel variant and this has taken a big toll on the manufacturer’s sales performance. All this is looking set to change with the advent of the Amaze. The car is still a few days away from officially entering the car market but has already been making a lot of news and looks poised to become the new king of the entry level C segment.

Powering the upcoming Honda Amaze is a 1.5 litres 4 cylinder iDTEC EarthDreams engine that is closely related to the much publicized 1.6 litres 4 cylinder EarthDreams engine.

Honda Amaze diesel mileage power

The 1.5 litres oil burner has a peak power output of 100PS and develops a peak torque figure of 200Nm. This makes the car considerably more powerful than the diesel variant of the Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire, which will be the main rival of the Amaze. The diesel engine from Honda is an all aluminium unit and this makes the motor the lightest engine in its class. Now, the entry level sedan buyers are generally more focused on fuel economy than on outright power and here again, the 1.5 litres diesel engine from Honda amazes with an ARAI certified fuel economy figure of 25.8 kmpl! All this means that the Amaze will not just be the most powerful car in its segment but will also be the most fuel efficient car in the market.

The Amaze will offer more equipment than the Brio hatchback. The upcoming car will also offer more interior space than the Brio. This is courtesy a lengthened wheelbase and new angle for the rear bench.

The new Honda Amaze measures less than 4 metres in length and is thus entitled to relaxation in excuse duty that is provided by the Govt. of India. While competitive pricing is not exactly Honda’s forte, this too might be set to change with the launch of the new Honda Amaze. Expect a starting price of close to INR 6.25 lakhs for the base diesel variant.

Future surely seems bright for Honda Cars India and we won’t be too surprised to see the new Amaze flying out of the showrooms.
