The Indian subsidiary of Yamaha might still be some time away from coming out with a 250cc offering for the fast growing Indian bike market. However, the bike maker has always made it a point to keep its existing products fresh by updating them on a regular basis.

The Yamaha FZ series of bikes have been clocking decent numbers on the sales chart and have brought a lot of customers to Yamaha India. Yamaha India has once again updated the FZ-S 150cc bike to infuse some excitement into the fast ageing brand. The latest update includes introduction of a set of new colour options for the 2013 Yamaha FZ-S.

Yamaha India gave the FZ-S a kick start lever, a new rear fender, a revised seat and new grab rails last year. However, the engine of the bike has always been unchanged and the need of the hour is a better performing motor. What with the new 150cc bikes upping the ante in the popular segment of Indian bike market?

Powering the Yamaha’s 150cc contender is a 153cc, four stroke, single cylinder motor that has a max power figure of 13.6 Bhp and a peak torque rating of 13.2 Nm. The motor comes mated to a 5 speed gearbox that offers smooth playing between the gears and bestows the bike with a punchy performance in low rev range. The Yamaha FZ-S comes with a front disc-rear drum brake setup and has a rear monoshock suspension along with widest tyres in its segment.

  1. @MANO … truly agreed i’ve always preferred the simplistic macho appeal over the GARISH graphics n UGLY flyscreen or whatever. I guess it high tym that they should launch the FZ with a bigger powerplant with 20-25bhp while staying true to its original FZ design. Hope YAMAHA’s listening…

  2. FZ is a looker and a good handler and is litreally priced well at 83K for FZs and 81 for FZ16 onraod delhi. I have a 200ns but whenever I look at my frnds FZ I envy him. This bike litreally looks like a SBK. Some prefer its look over R15 version1.

  3. I agree with mano. This color doesn’t seem suitable for Indian tastes. FZ need a more powerful (14+bhp) and efficient (50km/ltr) motor to hold on to its heritage

  4. That simple, muscular, original and neat graphic-less look will be cherished. Wasn’t that one of the main reasons why the FZ became an instant hit?

Yamaha, Honda, Suzuki, all need to attend compulsary courses at Hamara Bajaj on ‘Design Language’.
