New Generation Opel Corsa hatchback spotted testing in India

Added in: News

Most of us would remember the Opel Corsa trio of entry level sedan, station wagon and premium hatchback that was sold in Indian car market. The Opel Corsa impressed us all with its ride quality and registered a mediocre performance on the sales chart. The Corsa was marketed in India as a product of German engineering. However, the Corsa that we got was related more to Brazil than to Germany. Thanks to expensive spares and thirsty engines, the Corsa could never really do as well as . . say. .the Maruti Esteem.

You would wonder why we are telling you about a car that was sold almost a decade ago. No, we haven’t started offering history lessons on Indian car industry. The reason for the small flashback is that a current generation of the Opel Corsa hatchback has been spotted testing in Bengaluru.

The car spotted probably belongs to GM India’s technical centre and was undergoing road tests under the company’s global testing programme.

Interestingly, the Opel Corsa testmule that you see here is powered by the same 1.3 litre MultiJet engine that powers almost every diesel hatchback sold in the country. The Multijet engine has been jointly developed by GM and Fiat and hence founds application in many GM vehicles.

As is pretty obvious, GM India has no plans to re-introduce the Opel brand in India.
