The Audi India’s line up of cars today got more update and delicious with the launch of the latest version of the Audi TT sportscar. The younger sibling of the R8 is priced at Rs 48.36 lakh (ex-showroom). The manufacturer will start with the delivery of the car sometime in June this year.

The car comes to us via CBU route.”We are already a major player in the premium sports segment and I am confident that the introduction of the Audi TT will further help us consolidate our leadership position in the sports car segment in the country,” Audi India Head Michael Perschke commented in an interaction with the media. The TT will battle it out against the likes of Porsche Boxster, Mercedes Benz SLK and Nissan 370Z. This model is being bought for further establishing a premium brand image in the country and the German auto maker plans to sell about 50 units of the TT every year. However, it plans to see only 30 cars being sold in 2012. “As this segment is a very niche one, so we are not expecting a very large volume. The total size of this premium sports car market is 200-250 units per year. As we will start despatching the car in the middle of this year, we are hopeful of selling 25-35 units in 2012,” Mr Perschke said.

On the inside, you get the switches from the Audi parts bin and the aircon vent trio in the centre console continues to make the dash very appealing. Lot of silver garnishing on black interior bits, a flat bottomed 3 spoke steering wheel and well bolstered seats make the car a very sporty and upmarket place to be in.

Powering this car is a 2.0-litre TFSI (Turbocharged Fuel Stratified Injection) engine that churns out 211 PS- 50 Nm. The winner of many “engine of the year awards” is coupled with a 6-speed S-tronic gearbox. Power is distributed to all four wheels thru the quattro all-wheel drive system. The very light (1240kgs) Audi TT becomes a hero from zero in a quick 5.6 seconds and the top whack comes at 250 km/h.
