Mercedes GLG Class: More Details Emerge

Added in: News

The upcoming Mercedes GLG has been making news ever since it first emerged that Mercedes is busy planning to come up with the G Wagon. The GLG will be to the G Wagon what the CLA is to the CLS.

Unlike the upcoming Mercedes GLA, the GLG will not be a direct rival to the BMW X1 and the Audi Q3. Instead, the car will retain the rugged styling of the G Wagon and will serve the niche market. Basically, the GLG will be a smaller G Wagon which will come at a much lower price and will be powered by smaller engines.

The GLG has been Codenamed as X156 and is being internally called as the City-G. The Mercedes GLG Class will be a soft roader and won’t have the go anywhere capability of the G Wagon. The GLG will be underpinned by the new JC1 platform which has been jointly developed by Daimler and Renault. The new platform is basically a derivative of the MFA architecture and will support varying wheelbase lengths and track widths. The platform will also support both FWD and AWD layouts. The new JC1 platform will also underpin the next generations of MFA cars.

The GLG might find a competitor in Land Rover’s upcoming DC100-based baby SUV. The new Mercedes GLG SUV is being expected to go on sale with a price tag of around 32,500 Euros.
