Mercedes-AMG’s soon to be launched AMG GT-R has created a lap record around India’s Buddh International circuit, taking the crown for being the fastest production car around the track. The ‘fastest lap ever’ for a production car around the circuit was timed at 02 minute 09.853 seconds. The ‘Beast of the Green Hell’ was piloted by German born Christian Hohenadel for the feat. Christian is a highly regarded AMG Driver. The earlier ‘Fastest Lap’ at Buddh International Circuit was timed at 2 minutes 14.521 seconds, and was clocked by the SLS AMG in March, 2013. The speed test was conducted by FMSCI.
The AMG GT-R sits high up in the Mercedes-AMG performance food chain with its front mid-engine layout with transaxle, and a power output of 585 hp though its V8 biturbo engine. The AMG machine also boasts extensively modified suspension, sophisticated aerodynamics, active rear-axle steering, bespoke tyres and intelligent lightweight design.
Roland Folger, Managing Director and CEO, Mercedes-Benz India, talking about the feat, said “The Mercedes-AMG GT R which has spent a large portion of its development time at the Green Hell of the Nürburgring has proven its racing mettle at our very own Buddh International Circuit. It is only fitting that ahead of its India debut, the Mercedes-AMG GT R, holds the title of clocking the fastest lap ever by a production car in India.”
