Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire outsells Swift hatchback. 2nd largest selling car

Added in: Maruti Suzuki

It comes across as no surprise that the Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. continues to dominate the top end of the sales charts, even with the competition growing all the more stronger. The Alto A segment hatchback has been the leader of the Indian car sales charts since an eternity now , except for the fact that its elder sibling, the Swift, pipped it to the top for a brief period. The other MSIL vehicles which are a regular on the top of the car sales charts are the Swift hatchback, WagonR hatchback and the Swift Dzire entry level sedan.

Such is the popularity of the Alto that Maruti Suzuki sells more almost 20000 units of the car every month. The Alto is easily the undisputed leader of the small car segments. So is the Swift, of the B segment hatchback segment. The Dzire too has been on the top of the sales charts in the entry level sedan segment. However, we expected this to change with the advent of the Honda Amaze sedan. The Amaze is the smallest sedan to have ever come from Honda Cars India and is fairly more powerful than the Dzire. Also, it won’t be wrong to say that Honda enjoys a more premium image than Maruti Suzuki. However, it seems that the Amaze couldn’t really affect the sales performance of the Dzire.

The sales of Swift Dzire overtook those of the Swift hatchback during the months of March and April. In March, the Dzire sold 20,078 units versus 19,654 units of the Swift hatchback. In April, Dzire sold 19,446 units versus 16,530 units of the Swift hatchback.

The Dzire was very close to becoming the leader of car sales chart, with 401 units short of Alto’s sales during this period.

It seems like the recently launched Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire Regal limited edition has managed to keep prospective buyers from heading towards Honda dealerships. Also working in Maruti’s favours are discounts of as much as INR 25,000 on the diesel variants of Swift and Dzire.

  • Satish says:

Alto + Swift + Dzire = 60,000 per month for a single car manufacture. Oh my God!! How could Govt allow so many cars on road? Where is the drive space? Where is the parking space? Where is the oxygen left and what happens to trillions spent on public transport? Western countries (Govt + people) have planned for private vehicle free transport till 2045 while we doubled our car sells in just 4 years!!!
