Mahindra Stallio to be relaunched as the Pantero: More images and details

Added in: News

We told you a few days back that Mahindra will be re-launching the Stallio motorcycle as the Pantero. That’s quite a wise decision, as a nameplate, once tarnished, can never quite win back the faith of the customers. Now a fresh set of spy images have surfaced on the internet revealing important design elements on the new bike.  The Pantero is similar to the Stallio in almost all respects, except that the tank design has been changed a bit around the knee recesses and the bike is now splattered with far more stickers. Apart from that a few things like head shield on the exhaust and tool box are missing for the test bike.

The Stallio, which was launched with much fanfare along with a preview of the Mojo, bombed in the market, thanks to its overly vibey engine and faulty gearbox. Mahindra two Wheelers went back to the drawing board, and have been working on ironing out all the issues with the bike. The Pantero has been doing the rounds in a bid to get re-launched, and should soon see the light of the day.

ACI & Bikeadvice readers clicked these spy images of the bike when it was testing on the Pune-Ahmednagar highway. The Pantero is in an advanced stage of testing and should be launched early in 2013.  The Pantero, just like the Stallio will most likely be powered by a 106.7cc single cylinder sloper engine with 7.3 bhp @ 7500 rpm and 7.8 Nm of peak torque at 5500 rpm.

Minor changes will be made to the styling of the bike to distinguish it from its not so successful forebear. Mahindra would try to be doubly sure that this time their product doesn’t suffer from the issues that marred the Stallio. We’re keeping a hawk’s eye on the developments surrounding the bike. Stay tuned for more.
