Kawasaki preparing the KRR ZX150 mini-Ninja for India?

Added in: News

Kawasaki seems to be planning to introduce a brand new 150cc bike in India. The Ninja 250R has been under a lot of pressure ever since Honda launched the CBR250R, undercutting the Ninja 250 by more than 1.2 lakhs and rendering the latter as an extremely expensive option. Seems like Kawasaki is planning to get back in the game with a new model, this time a 150!

Now, before you begin laughing at us for comparing a 150cc bike with a 250, let us enlighten you about the power output of this 150cc Kawasaki, known as the Ninja KRR ZX150. The 148cc liquid-cooled, 2-stroke, single cylinder engine of this mini powerhouse produces an explosive 30.0PS of peak power at a high 10,500 rpm. Peak torque is rated at 21.6 Nm at 9,000 rpm. The carbureted bike which uses a MIKUNI VM28 unit has its engine mated to a 6-speed transmission. The 150cc engine employed in the Ninja KRRZX150 is equipped with what Kawasaki liked calling SUPER KIPS (Kawasaki Integrated Power Valve System). This, apparently ensures continuous and useable power delivery across the entire power band. The bike also employs dual-calipers front and rear ventilated disc brakes. The bike also comes with and aluminium swing-arm stabilizer, which according to Kawasaki enhances performance stability as you flip the bike from left to right.

The KRR ZX150 employs telescopic forks up front and a monoshock at the rear for handling suspension duties. Indonesia’s TMCBlog has managed to take some spy pictures of the bike while apparently undergoing test for Indian and some other Asian markets. The test bike features some cosmetic changes over the 150cc bike currently sold in some countries. Here we have the official specs of the KRR ZX150, followed by the official and spy images.
