Honda Japan has teased the 2014 Honda Accord Hybrid on its website slated for launch later this month. The Japan bound sedan misses out on the plug-in hybrid technology as compared to the Honda Accord Hybrid PHEV (Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle) being sold in the US.

The series of images including the interiors highlight the digital instrument cluster, leather-trimmed steering wheel, dash mounted-display and a small touch screen embedded in the centre console. On the exterior is a similar blue-tinted grille and set of blue-hued LED headlights as found on the US based Honda Accord EV.

Honda would be revealing the specifications post the new Honda Accord Hybrid launch on June 20th. Most probably the new car will be powered by a two motor hybrid system that includes a 105 kW electric motor mated to a 2.0-litre four-cylinder Atkinson-cycle engine producing 137 bhp collectively cranking out peak power of 196 bhp.

Fuel consumption has been rated at 3.3 litres per 100 kilometers that translates to 30 kilometres per litre! And though it’s short of the US Accord by nearly one litre, but even if it manages to get anywhere close to the 30 kpl mark in everyday driving conditions- it’s nothing short of an impressive figure. The US based Honda Accord is rated at 2.4 litres of fuel per 100 kilometres giving it an astounding figure of 41 kpl. In real world conditions, that’s nearly close to figures of the performance bikes in our country!!

Though everyone would wish to have one in our own backyard, unfortunately hybrids haven’t taken off in this part of the world- why? The Honda Civic Hybrid is one very good example.
