Honda CB Unicorn 150 discontinued in India?

After horsing its way ahead of the competition for almost a decade, it seems Honda has finally pulled the plug on their CB Unicorn 150 motorcycle in India. We called a few Honda dealerships in and around Mumbai, who confirmed the news, stating there is no current stock of the Unicorn 150, neither is any new stock arriving from the manufacturer. The move isn’t surprising, considering they launched a 160cc iteration of the motorcycle recently, which has been received rather well in the market. With the Honda Unicorn 150 out of production then, it will be easy for Honda to concentrate on selling the 150cc Trigger, the Unicorn 160 and the fully faired CBR 150. Cannibalization wouldn’t be much of a concern anymore, as the Unicorn 150 was still a popular motorcycle in the segment.

The Unicorn 160, although not radically different, takes a different styling approach compared to the elegant design of the 150cc bike, which was hugely popular across the nation. Powering the new Unicorn 160 is a 163.2cc, single-cylinder engine that develops 14.7PS at 8,000rpm and 14.6Nm of torque at 6,000rpm. Although the 10cc advantage is only marginal, the Honda Unicorn 160 is 11 kgs lighter than its discontinued cousin. The Honda Unicorn 160 also gets more modern equipment in the form of an all-digital instrument console, Combi Braking System (optional) and Honda’s HET wizardry. With the Pulsar 150 NS launch around the corner and Bajaj’s reputation of offering fantastic value-for-money, expect competition in the 150 segment to heat up further. Summer is coming!
