The boffins at Honda aren’t resting on their laurels after receiving a great response to the recently launched Amaze sedan.
The cyber space is already full of rumours that Honda Cars India might be contemplating launching the upcoming Brio based MPV in the fast growing Indian car market and today, Jnaneswar Sen, senior vice president – marketing and sales, told our friends at IAB that Honda Cars India might indeed launch a seven seat MPV in our car market. He told that the manufacturer is already studying our car marker for reaching a concrete decision regarding the launch of the MPV.
It has also emerged that the much publicized 1.5 litre i-DTEC diesel engine that made its debut with the Amaze sedan won’t head to any of the current offerings by the carmaker. Instead, the engine has good probability of powering some of the Honda cars in future. It is pretty much for sure that the motor will be put to use in the diesel variant of the Brio based MPV and will also be seen powering the next gen Jazz and the City. The 1.5-liter diesel engine has a max power output of 100PS and a peak torque figure of 200Nm. The engine also holds the title of being the most efficient car engine in India.
The upcoming Brio based MPV will be first launched in the Indonesian car market. In Indonesia, the car will be pitted against the likes of Toyota Avanza, Daihatsu Xenia and the very popular Suzuki Ertiga.
The Brio MPV will be launched in India soon after its Indonesian debut. In India, the Brio MPV will lock horns with the high selling Maruti Suzuki Ertiga and the soon to be launched Chevrolet Enjoy. Another car that might join this equation in near future is the seven seater version of the Ford B-Max.
The Brio MPV will borrow a lot of components from the Amaze sedan and will share the lengthened wheelbase. Other components that the two Brio based vehicles would be seen sharing are the dashboard assembly, front doors, door pads and seats.
It remains to be seen if the Brio MPV would replicate the success of the Amaze in Indian car market.
