Honda Brio Sedan Confirmed for India. To be Launched with a Diesel Engine

Added in: Honda

As we reported earlier, Honda Motors India Ltd. will launch diesel variant of its cars next year. It may be noted that the Japanese auto major is fast losing out to other car manufacturers owing to lack of an oil burner to plonk into its cars on sale in India. It has emerged that the first Honda car to offer a diesel engine in India will be an entry level sedan based on the Brio. Regulars might remember that we had talked about the possibility of Honda Brio spawning a small sedan for Indian market. Now, the car maker has confirmed the launch of an entry level sedan based on the Brio hatchback. The Honda Brio Sedan will be positioned below the highly popular City and will compete with the fast selling Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire and the likes.

The Brio platform will be also used to develop a utility vehicle to cater to India’s fast emerging mini MPV market.

Honda’s Senior VP (Sales & Marketing) Jnaneswar Sen has also said that the City sedan and Jazz hatchback might not get the upcoming diesel engine. The oil burner will head to Jazz only when the manufacturer launches the next generation of the car in Indian market. The new Jazz platform, as we reported earlier today, will also be used to develop a compact SUV for Indian market.

A diesel entry level sedan, a diesel hatchback, new Jazz and a new compact SUV. Future looks promising for Honda Motors India Ltd.
