Ford has been known as the manufacturer of some really well sorted out trucks since some time and now, the American biggie has unveiled the new Ford Atlas concept truck, which will spawn the next F-150 in a year or two.

“It’s a fresh take on a lot of the design cues that connote what an F-Series is,” said Mark Fields, Ford’s chief operating officer. “When you see this vehicle you know it’s an F-Series. You could see some of those things show up on a future F-Series,” Fields said.

The Atlas Concept is larger than the present day F-150, with wheelbase being longer by six inches and overall length being seven inches more.

While not much is known about what goes under the hood, Ford did say that the Atlas has a “next-generation Eco-Boost,” which will be mated to a six-speed automatic transmission and will have a start-stop system. Ford Atlas also gets active grille shutters and an aerodynamic body to further aid the fuel efficiency.

“[The Atlas] takes aerodynamics and fuel efficiency to all new levels, with industry-first active grille shutters on a pickup,” Hinrichs said.

Our favourite bit is the chin spoiler that raises and lowers to improve airflow under the truck.
