New Ford Ecosport Storm off road

Ford Ecosport Storm with AWD, 170 hp Unveiled in Brazil: Images and all the Details

So what does the Ford Ecosport Lack? It’s got a good set of engines, looks pretty smart, handles well and is priced well too. If only it had a tad bit more space, and for the more adventurous amongst us, a capable AWD system, it would probably have made itself a lot more desirable to a whole bunch of adventure enthusiasts. While the space is something that cannot be addressed on a specific model, the AWD has made an appearance on the Ecosport. It’s called the Ford Ecosport Storm and it looks bloody cool. While we’re still unsure if any such thing would ever make it to our shores, our South American counterparts seem to have been introduced to this mini-monster of sorts, which also gets endowed with some nifty go-anywhere capability.

The Ecosport Storm was teased earlier, and has now been revealed in all its glory with some really yummy details which would make a whole lot of amongst us salivate. The Ecosport Storm gets a more powerful 2.0 litre petrol engine with a power output rated at 170hp and 202Nm of torque. That delectable spread of power is transmitted to all four wheels via a six speed automatic transmission. The Storm also gets steering mounted paddle shifters as standard.

On the exterior, the Ecosport gets a bold Storm badging (a la Raptor) over a radiator grille which is way bolder and aggressive than the vanilla version. The Ecosport Storm is an improvement over the latest face-lifted version of the car that sells in India. It gets a brand new shade of brown in addition to black under-cladding, black roof rails, storm decals and a sunroof as standard in addition to a few more bits here and there. The Storm also gets exclusive 17-inch two tone alloys to go with the personality of the car.

Inside the cabin, the new Ecosport Storm gets a two-tone orange-grey finish. The cabin gets leather upholstery with orange accents with ‘Storm’ badging on front seats. There’s an 8.0-inch Sync3 infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility as well. In addition to the auto transmission and paddle shifters, the car gets equipment which is in-line with the top of the line Titanium variant. The Storm is heavier by 110kg than the standard car. It gets a revised suspension setup for better off-road capability, vibration cancellation and shock absorption.

The chances of this specific version coming to India are nigh zero. Though we would love it if the 1.5 turbo diesel powered version could be offered with a reasonably capable AWD. Wouldn’t that be great? Thoughts?
