Clear spy images and more details of the 2014 Skoda Superb Facelift

One of the most successful D-segment cars in India, the Skoda Superb is duie for a facelift, and the Czech carmaker is hard at getting the machine ready for a global launch. The car has been caught testing earlier as well, but these images of the car in its estate form from Auto Evolution are the clearest yet.

Our first impression is that the facelift won’t be a great departure from the current gen car. Skoda have tweaked the front end with a new design for the headlamps, new bumpers, and a new radiator grille. The bonnet of the car has also undergone a few changes so as to make proper space for the new grille which is bigger and taller. Changes have been made at the rear end also with new tail-lamps, a redesigned bumper and the altered position of the registration plate.

While no major changes are expected for the powertrain, Skoda may tweak the existing engine for a bit more juice and efficiency. Green technologies such a micro hybrid and a stop/start system may also be employed. Subtle changes are expected to be made to the interiors too with some new features added.

We would like our readers to know that this facelift isn’t the new-gen Superb. Skoda will introduce the completely reworked Superb sometime in 2015 and the test mule you see here will essentially fill in for the remaining two years in the completion of the product life cycle.

Skoda will most likely bring this new car to India by the end of 2013. A 1.8 liter TSI petrol and a 2.0 liter TDI diesel will be offered as engine options. Just like the current gen car, a cheaper, manual variant will be offered, along with the brilliant DSG auto on the higher end variants.
