Chevrolet Tracker compact SUV spotted in Argentina. Latest Ford EcoSport rival

Added in: Ford

We don’t need to repeat ourselves by saying that the compact SUV segment is fast heating up in almost all markets around the globe. The Dacia Duster and the Ford EcoSport are already doing a world of good to their respective carmakers and we will soon see a host of other manufacturers jumping into the compact SUV bandwagon.

One of the latest entrants into the world of compact SUVs is the Chevrolet Trax aka Tracker. The car is close to venturing into markets of South America and a Chevrolet Tracker test mule was recently spotted testing Buenos Aires, Argentina. Chevrolet has already stated that the car would be launched in Argentina in later half of 2013, around the same time in which the car will be launched in Brazil.

Underpinning the Chevrolet Tracker is GSV compact car platform, same architecture that is being used in the Onix, Sonic, Cobalt and Spin. Powering the Tracker in Argentina car market will be the same 1.8 litres Ecotec motor that powers the Cruze. The Tracker’s motor will come mated to a five-speed manual ‘box, with a six-speed automatic transmission being optional.

The Chevrolet Tracker is almost the same size of the EcoSport and measures just a little more than 4 litres in length. We won’t be too surprised to see Chevrolet India launching this car in India. What with the Renault Duster becoming the highest selling SUV of the country and the EcoSport generating a huge response even before its launch?

Would you like to have a Chevrolet contender in the fast heating up compact SUV segment of India? Do let us know.
