Hyundai introduces i10 BlueDrive, the LPG variant of the car!

Added in: Hyundai

Not long ago, we talked about Hyundai delaying the development of the diesel version of the i10 hatchback. We were a bit surprised because every other manufacturer seems to be coming out with vehicles ready to give a cold shoulder to rising petrol prices. Ever since Tata came up with Indica eV2 LPG, we were sure of a suitable answer from Hyundai.  And here we finally have the LPG version of the high selling i10. i10 LPG joins the likes of  Beat, new Wagon R and the Indica eV2. All launched within months of each other.

Christened as the i10 BlueDrive (blue drive represents Hyundai’s eco-friendly and fuel efficient range) , the car is available in two versions- Era 1.1 costs INR 4.16 lakh and Magna 1.1 costs 4.30 lakh (ex-showroom prices, Delhi). The LPG variants are priced Rs 27,630 more than the comparable petrol model.

The car comes with a good 34 liter LPG tank along with a 35 liter petrol tank and meets global performance and safety standards and the car comes with an easy shifting mechanism between LPG and IRDE2 petrol engine. The LPG kit in i10 blue drive is impact resistant and is approved by DOE (Department of Explosives). It is tested and certified by ARAI (Automotive Research Association of India). The factory-fitted LPG system carries full 2 year manufacturer warranty. The LPG tank has a special ‘Toroidal’  structure that, in words of Hyundai, enables intelligent use of space and makes for larger boot space than conventional LPG-fitted models.

The car boasts of an Alternator Management System (AMS) that controls delivery of power to the battery. While decelerating, the power supply to the battery is normal and during acceleration it limits the power – this gives enhanced battery life and better mileage. The manual shift indicator seems to be quite innovative and may help in attaining better economy.

At the launch event, Mr H W Park, MD and CEO, HMIL said, “The LPG version of our Next Gen i10 is a viable alternative for customers looking at low running cost. With the launch of the i10 Blue Drive, Hyundai is broadening its eco-friendly  initiative. Hyundai  believes in preserving the environment by making eco-friendly cars that run on low emission fuels.”
