We have been reporting in detail about the new 2014 Hyundai i10 hatchback. The new Hyundai i10 will be launched in India soon after its global debut and has been caught testing in India on numerous occasions. The new car will be sold in India with both diesel and petrol engine options and will battle it out against the likes of Chevrolet Beat and Maruti Suzuki Ritz.

The diesel variant of the small car from the Korean auto giant was recently caught in Chennai. The all new Hyundai i10, which has been codenamed as BA, will make its global debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September this year.

2014 Hyundai i10 will offer more interior space and will have a longer equipment list. The interiors will be put together using better quality materials and the car is being expected to offer the best passenger comfort in its segment.

The diesel engine which will power the new i10 is a 1.1 liter 3 cylinder turbocharged unit which is currently being offered on the UK spec i20. This engine produces a max power output of 74 bhp and has low CO2 emissions. The top end petrol variants will continue to be powered by the 1.2 liter Kappa2 engine that powers the current car. Replacing the dated 1.1 litre iRDE motor in the entry level variants will be a new 1.0 litre 3 cylinder unit with similar power figures.

The i10 is an important car for Hyundai Motors India Ltd and the Indian subsidiary of the Korean car maker has big hopes with the upcoming generation of its popular hatchback.

The new i10 diesel is still quarters away. It may still be left as a speculation, considering the dwindling sales of diesel and its rising prices.

As for comparison, it might just compete with lower Indica models, beat, figo, wagon r diesel. ( all come in almost same price brackets)

Many people who select a Ritz over a Figo do it not because of the shape (nothing personal against Ritz, I own one), but based on pure performance, and mileage. Hyundai cars have always lost to Maruti in that area. Eon was supposed to be a competitor to Alto 800 and with the same configuration and more features, it is still behind Alto in sales.

The point I am trying to make is base comparisons should be done across some common factors. I agree i10 Diesel to Beat Diesel. But I would like to stand by what I said that Ritz is way beyond comparison against i10 *BOLD* when it comes to performance *BOLD 🙂

  • We believe that there is much more to a car than just the outright performance. What you are saying is something like the last gen Honda City (77bhp) not being a competitor to the SX4 (106bhp). Come to think of it, the last gen Honda City sent many manufacturers back to drawing boards.

  • Niranjan Raju says:

This cannot compete with Ritz Diesel in anyway. Come on, i10 Diesel is a 3 cyl 1.1 Lt 75 BHP. Ritz is a 1.3L DDiS, 80BHP, 190 Nm, 4 Cyl DOHC engine. You got to be kidding me if i10 Diesel can take on Ritz in any manner whether space, GC or average.

Having said that, when it comes to interiors, then Ritz is no comparison. Infact Maruti cannot come close to Hyundai in that sense.

The i10 Diesel can only be pitched against Chevy Beat Diesel which is of the same spec and interiors.
