2012 Auto Expo: Toyota launches the new Innova and Fortuner, announces Etios Cup





Toyota Kirloskar launched the new Innova and the Fortuner at the 11th Auto Expo. The company also introduced a new and refreshed variant lineup of the Etios and Etios Liva. Toyota also introduced the new Prius on the occasion along with bringing to India the 2012 version of the Camry. The Expo also played host to the introduction of the new Land Cruiser 200, or the LC200. Toyota’s theme for this year is ‘harmony in motion’ reflecting company’s efforts to bring joy to its customers.

The pricing for the new Fortuner is as stated below

4×4 manual Transmission Rs 20.99 lakh ex-Delhi

The new Innova gets a new front grille, new wraparound front headlamps, new alloys and a new bumper. The car now also comes with a reverse camera in the top end version. On the inside, the new Innova gets a lighter colour theme, two tone seat covers, dark wood finish interiors, touch screen on center console, DVD, Display Audio with USB, Aux and Bluetooth and steering mounted controls.

The price of the new Innova ranges between Rs 9.4 lakh to Rs 13.19 lakh rupees.

Toyota announces Etios Motor Racing for India


Toyota, on the 6th of January during the Auto Expo announced the launch of the Etios Motor Racing series from 2013. “We want as many people as possible to enjoy motor racing,” Toyota Racing Development (TRD) president, Masanobu Kawase, said. “It is what we call participatory motorsports where the customers themselves participate”

The Etios cup would comprise of 25 competitors who would be selected via a selection process. The registrations for the racing series will start from January 15 and continue till February 15. Drivers to be selected will have to be between 15 and 24 years with a valid license from FMSCI. A total of 100 shortlisted drivers will then have to attend training camps before being reduced to the final 25.

The engines powering the race cars will remain the same as in the 1.2 liter hatchback and 1.5 liter saloon versions of the Etios. Only the chassis will be modified.

It’s really a good news for motorsport lovers, as after first the VW Polo Cup and now the Etios Cup, it seems like big carmakers in India are finally paying attention to investing into motorsport in the country.
