I was thinking about getting a dieseltronics tuning box for my 1.2 -litre TDI Polo. I suppose it would be more VFM as compared to a remap. What are your thoughts on the same? Is a tuning box good enough? Do share your experiences, and if possible, an alternative brands or other options too.

I used a Pete’s Box on my diesel Dzire for a substantial amount of time. It worked wonders with the power delivery. The car felt significantly punchier with a very perceptible increment in power. The only downside was a little less fuel efficiency and a little more black smoke emanating from the tailpipe. I would personally recommend you go with a tuning box rather than an ECU overhaul. It’s simpler, cheaper and in most cases, very effective

Its more about what you want to do with the car if you are kind of satisfied with just a small increase in usable power then you can opt for tuning boxes, one good thing about tuning box though is you can use it in another car when you change your car, Remap on the other hand will stay back with your old car. But then long term effect on the engine, black smoke because of un burnt fuel are evident features of tuning box. Remapping on the other hand opens a multitude of opportunity to explore new territories on the car. Its like you change the entire behaviour of the car firstly you can get rid of the flat spot on the engine rpm range that you might encounter. Any engine will perform the best if intake and exhaust of the engine are free of any obstructions but to meet pollution norms car manufactures introduce many such obstructions like catalytic convertor, Diesel particulate filter egr valve … to name a few , so if you decide to get rid of all these thing and go for a free flow exhaust with decat you have to go for remapping.Besides that remap will make your car more smooth and smoke free.

The only  down side to this is you should get a good tuner to map the car
