BMW India have finally launched their much awaited liter class bikes in India. This was coming after months of speculation as to when the BMW bikes would be launched in India. These bikes however don’t get a separate show room and would have to share space with the BMW cars. The other common factor would be the fact that being CBUs brought in directly from Germany, these bikes would cost almost the same as their 4 wheeled cousins. There would be a total of 10 BMW bikes on offer for sale in India as of now. All these bikes would be imported as per the order that the customer places and deliveries would take approximately a week to anywhere from 3-4 months.

The cheapest of the BMW bikes would be the R 1200 R naked street bike whereas the costliest would be the HP 2 Sport full faired sport bike. The former would be available for an asking price of Rs 16,06,419 whereas the latter goes for a price tag of Rs 29,35,187. All other bikes would slot in neatly between these two. Those would be the K 1600 GTL, R 1200 RT, K 1300 S sports tourer, K 1600 GT, S 1000 RR, K 1300 R naked muscle bike, R 1200 GS Adv and the R 1200 GS. Bookings have started now.

Wind tunnel and aerodynamics is the culprit.

I bet few haven't noticed the difference between the right & left lower fairing (above foot rests) They are different too.

Right side has shark fins whereas left has a big gaping hole.

The bike does not define you, but the actions you perform while on the bike do.

@CV : LoL

@Sheel : aerodynamics do not explain the asymmetry at all. Typically asymmetric designs arise from compromises to fit a particular limit - weight, cost etc, mostly engineering related. Now perhaps the two headlights are designed for optimized low and high beams, but that still doesn't excuse the fairing.

Yup, I'd have liked the shark-gills on both sides :D

Found on SPORT TOURING forum sometimes back

Quote

straight from one of the BMW Ambassadors for the bike.  1) The smaller high beam shaved 1 1/2 lbs.   2)  There is no way of mistaking that bike for anything else but an S1000RR (brand recognition).  3)  BMW designers are keeping with the asymmetrical design that is apparent across the entire line.

The 2012 version of the bike has been revealed. No major changes made to the engine - power and torque output remains the same. The focus is more on suspension, handling and some other finer but important bits.

Detailed report can be found Here
