Yamaha R15 bags I-mark 2012 at country's first `India Design Mark'

Yamaha R15 has always been one of our favourite bikes and it is not just us who have been appreciating the bikes. In about 4 years since it has been here, the bike has pleased all sections of Indian bikers- be it the commuters, performance freaks or those who love bikes as a means of posing. The R15 Ver 2.0, which borrows a fair bit of styling cues from from the R6, has been doing good numbers in its segment and after winning a lot of awards from various media groups and yet again, the R15 has bagged an award, but this one comes with a difference. Read on.

The R15 gets awarded in the very first edition of the India Design Mark and Maruti Suzuki WagonR and Swift are the winners among the 4 wheelers. The I-mark has been awarded to 31 products across various categories.

The judgement from I-mark comes after multiple levels of diligent evaluation. Initiated by the India Design Council in cooperation with Japan Institute of Design Promotion (JDP), India Design Mark has clear objectives, some of which are:

  • To serve as reference for purchase decisions as it signifies good design not only in terms of aesthetics, but also the product quality, functionality, quality, usability and social responsibility.

  • Increase awareness of design and promote value of design.

  • Promote an industrial value system, which has regard for reducing waste, being eco-friendly, produce sustainable products; produce products that are reusable, repairable and recyclable

  • Augment the competitiveness of Indian industrial output for domestic consumption and exports
