Skoda Kodiaq and Superb Interior Revealed: New Knobs, Large Touchscreen, and PHEV Option

Skoda has revealed the interior of the upcoming second-generation Kodiaq and fourth-generation Superb. The highlight of the interiors of the two models is the use of three knobs to control a majority of the functions in the cars.

New Interior Design

The knobs have small 1.26-inch displays that show which function they are controlling. The outer two knobs control the temperature for the driver and passenger, as well as the seat heating or ventilation function for each seat. The centre knob controls media volume, fan speed, and driving modes by default, with an option to add air direction and map zoom. The three knobs are flanked by four physical buttons that control the front and rear windshield defogger, air circulation, and the auto mode for the climate control.

The new Kodiaq’s dashboard layout is similar to the first-gen Kodiaq, but the piano black inserts have been replaced with leather. The central AC vents have been moved beneath the new large touchscreen.

The next-gen Superb’s interior, however, is a radical departure from the now-discontinued-in-India third-gen Superb. Moreover, It now has a layered dashboard design with leather and wood inserts. This makes the interior look upmarket and fresh. The central AC vents are also placed beneath the new large touchscreen, like the new Kodiaq. The corner AC vents are neatly integrated with the vertical dashboard inlays.

Both the new Kodiaq and Superb will also get a 10.0-inch digital instrument cluster. The directional controls of the AC vents are now two knobs sitting on a chrome strip, which itself sits between the lock/unlock button and the hazard light-switch. Both will also get a column-mounted drive selector.

Skoda Powertrain Options

The new Kodiaq and Superb will be powered by a choice of five engines: two petrol, two diesel, and a plug-in hybrid (PHEV). The PHEV versions get a 150hp, 1.5-litre TSI engine and a 25.7kWh battery. Combined with the electric motor, the Kodiaq and Superb PHEV’s total outputs will be 204hp and both will come with a 6-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox. Skoda says the hybrids will have an electric-only range of 100km.

The 150hp, 1.5-litre TSI engine will also power the entry-level Kodiaq and Superb, but will get a mild-hybrid system and a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox. The other petrol engine on offer with the two models will be a 2.0-litre TSI. On the Kodiaq it will come with 204hp, a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic l, and a four-wheel drive system. On the superb, it will come in two states of tune – 204hp and 265hp – with both getting the 7-speed dual-clutch automatic, but only the latter will come with the four-wheel drive system.

Both will also get two diesel engines. One will be a 150hp, 2.0-litre diesel engine mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox, while the other will be the same powertrain producing 193hp that’s mated to a four-wheel drive system.

The new Kodiaq and Superb are expected to be launched in India in early 2024.
