Hyundai i-Gen i20 launched @ INR 473000

It is seldom that our sources fail us but this time, they have. While we were of belief that the new i20 will be launched next month, Hyundai Motors India Ltd today, silently launched the updated version of this car.

The 2013 i20 has a new front fascia. Thanks to Hyundai trying to infuse the Fluidic sculpture into all of its cars, the reaction to the styling of the new i20 leaves us with mixed emotions. While the new headlamps and the LED treatment looks just fine, the grille can at best be described as ‘funny.’ Not a good thing, considering that we have always described the outgoing version’s looks as matured, upmarket and handsome. The LED integrated fog lamps will come on the Asta variant and i20 becomes the first car to retail at this side of INR 10 lakhs mark to come with LEDs.  Talking about the rear, the car gets new tail-lamps and there is a reverse camera situated behind the Hyundai insignia on the boot. The car also gets new bumpers..

The interiors remain largely the same with some minor changes such as new AC vents and a slight change in the color of the dash plastics.

Talking about the engines on offer, as we had previously mentioned, the car is powered by a Variable Timing version of the 1.2-litre gasoline motor continues to be on duty. The 1.4 litre diesel and petrol motor should remain the way they are. At best, Hyundai might tinker with these a bit for better efficiency. The 1400cc diesel is mated to a 6 speed transmission.

The i20 refresh is not prone to as much rattling as the outgoing model and has better NVH levels. The i20 facelift should be launched early next month.

Being called as iGen i20, the new i20 is available in 12 variants. The Petrol variants range from Rs 473,400 to Rs 665,894, the diesel variants range from  Rs 596,334  to Rs 744,013 and the  automatic variant is priced at Rs767,405.

The car comes with some new features that are being seen in the segment for the first time.

As per ARAI, the i-Gen i20 petrol (1.2 Kappa Dual VTVT) delivers a mileage of 18.5 kmpl the diesel variant (1.4 CRDi) delivers a mileage of 21.9 kmpl and the automatic transmission variant (1.4 ltr petrol) delivers 15 kmpl which make it fuel-efficient and economical to drive.

First in segment features:

  • Rear view camera
  • Auto headlights control
  • Rain sensing wipers
  • Rear view Electro Chromic Mirror for convenient night driving
  • Six airbags
  • Rear disc brakes
  • Supervision cluster

Underseat exhaust looks good. So finally a bike which can take stuff like Rajmachi during rains like a piece of cake. Bring it on Hero Moto Corp. Can't wait to see her in flesh, maybe I'd even buy one. 🙂

  2. This bike seems to dual off road dirt bike not 100% stunting dirt bike as i am expecting.OK.

Best luck for Hero moto corp for their new experiment.
