All new Toyota Camry launched at INR 23.8 lakhs

Toyota Kirloskar Motors has launched the new Camry in Indian market for INR 23.8 lakhs (ex showroom Delhi). The new gen car was first seen in India at the 2012 Auto Expo. The new Camry should help Toyota regain the lost ground in upper D-segment. The latest generation of the Camry line-up for the Japanese Domestic Market (JDM) has been reduced to a hybrid variant only. Other than the powertrain option, the Japanese market will now share the rest of the car with our market. The Indian version of the Camry comes with a 2.5-Liter 4-cylinder DOHC 16-Valve Dual VVT-i engine. This motor pumps out a decent power output of 178 hp @ 6000 rpm. We do not expect to see the 268 hp, 3.5 liter V6 in India. While arch rival Honda has been generous to us in this regard, we have always known that the V6 version of the Accord has no market in India. It may also be noted that Skoda India recently discontinued the V6 variant of Superb.

What remains to be seen is how Toyota has prepared itself to battle against the diesel engined rivals in the market.

Engine capacity and fuel options: 2.5 liter VVTi petrol
Transmission: 6-speed manual
Power: 178 HP at 6000 rpm
Torque: 230 Nm at 4100 rpm
Expected launch date: 14th march 2012
Expected price: Rs 17 to 21 lakhs
