Zoyte Nomad aka Premier Rio gets a facelift in China

The Premier Rio has never been able to take the car market by storm. The Rio has to be among the least popular cars out there and we feel that the car should have deserved a better fate in our car market.

The Premier Rio is basically a re-badged Zotye T200 aka Nomad, CKD kits of which are being imported from China by PAL. The Zotye T200 also has a Japanese connection as the Chinese car is allegedly a blatant copy of the last gen Daihatsu Terios..

In India, the Premier Rio is being sold with three engine options- a 1.2 litre petrol with enough power for in-city driving, a 1.5 TUD5 Peugeot IDI diesel engine that is old enough to be kept in a museum and a 1.3 litre Fiat direct injection motor that powers enough diesel cars in the country to be known as the ‘national diesel engine’.

The Chinese auto manufacturer has finally come up with a facelift of the car and the updated Compact SUV will be sold alongside the older version.

The updated Nomad comes with a new front fascia that sports new headlamps which are more stylish, a new front grill that is bigger and a new front bumper that gets bigger fog lamps. Other changes include a revised set of taillamps a new bumper.

On the inside, the car gets a dual tone dashboard. Gone are the small rectangular air vents and the dashboard gets circular vents and a revised centre fascia.

It remains to be seen if Premier brings this facelift to us but with the Duster flying out of showrooms and EcoSport close to being launched, Premier better does!
