Back in 1966, the legendary Carroll Shelby and Hertz Corporation made an agreement, under which the former produced some Shelby GT350 Mustangs for Hertz Rent-a-Racer program.
Now, Hertz’s Rent-a-Racer program is back, almost. The new program, which has been christened as the Hertz Dream Car, has a huge line up of performance cars that includes the Corvette, the Camaro, the Ford Mustang GT, the AM Vantage, Audi R8, Ferrari F430, Lamborghini Gallardo, Porsche 911, Bentley Continental GT and SRT Viper.
The Ferraris and Lamborghinis, which naturally are the top of the line models, can be rented out for $1,500 a day. The relatively moderate Porsche Boxster can be rented out for $395 a day. The more powerful Audi R8 and Vantage cost about $1,000.
“The Dream Cars experience extends from special reservation channels to being greeted by a Hertz representative at the airport terminal, to a rental vehicle in pristine condition,” said Hertz Chairman and CEO Mark P. Frissora. “We ensure the travel experience with a Hertz Dream Car will be unforgettable.”
The fine print says that the range for these cars is 75 miles per day, with each additional mile costing around 49 cents to three dollars more (based on the car). Also, our guess is that you are not allowed to perform performance tests or take the rides to racing circuits.
The service is already underway in Florida, with Hertz planning to expand it to Las Vegas, Los Angeles, San Diego and 33 other cities in US.
