Women in Madhya Pradesh to get free license from April 1 2016, from today in Indore

Women Rally to the Valley - International Women Day (44)

In a bid to empower women, the Madhya Pradesh government has decided to issue driving licenses to women for free. The scheme will be implemented state wide from the beginning of the next fiscal year on April 1 2016. However, the scheme has already been implemented for the city of Indore where aspiring women drivers will get their license without having to pay any fees from today itself.

Orders have been issued to all Regional Transport Offices of the state and the scheme will be implemented across the state from the new fiscal.

The procedure for applying the licence would remain unaltered. It’s notable, though, that the licenses are being made free for women only for the first attempt. From second attempt onwards, the applicant would have to pay the usual fee amounting to Rs 400.

Upon applying online for the driving license on the transport department website, when the applicant clicks on ‘female’ in the gender section, the payment option would automatically disappear for both learning and permanent candidates.

Software developer Smart Chip Company, which handles RTO work, has been asked to design new software with regard to free licence for women and has updated the software accordingly.

The directive has been issued by Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan for the benefit of women in the state.

The Transport Department is also planning to organise green marathon rally on January 10 to make people aware of saving environment and also for improving health.
