Wagon R reaches 10 lakh sales milestone in India

Maruti Suzuki has sold an astonishing 10 lakh units of the WagonR small car. The milestone has been achieved 12 years after the car was first introduced in the Indian market. Wagon R has become the fourth model in Maruti Suzuki’s portfolio to have crossed 1 million sales. The Maruti 800, Alto and Omni have already achieved the feat.

“It is a very proud moment for us and it gives more happiness because this milestone has been achieved in the domestic market,” Shahank Srivastava, Chief General Manager (Marketing), Maruti Suzuki India said.
The Wagon R comes equipped with a 1-liter, 3-cylinder K-series engine with 67bhp of peak power and 90Nm of torque. The car competes with its arch rival Hyundai Santro, Chevrolet Beat, and its own cousins the A-star and Zen Estilo.

The company introduced a new version of the Wagon R about a year ago, and managed to outclass the Santro with more space and more modern and efficient engine. The car’s sales got a boost after the new model was launched. The Wagon R sells around 15,000 units a month.
