Volkswagen Up Diesel to Debut in 2013

It has now been confirmed that the German auto giant Volkswagen is all set to come up with a diesel version of its Up hatchback. The Volkswagen Up diesel will be powered by a two-cylinder motor and will be launched in the first half of 2013.

Speaking at the Sao Paulo motor show, Volkswagen R&D chief Ulrich Hackenberg said that the two cylinder diesel motor will be based on the Volkswagen XL1’s motor. He also said that the two-cylinder engine was compatible with all models in the New Small Family platform, which opens up the possibility of a two-cylinder diesel version of the NSF-based VW Taigun concept which heads to production in 2015.

The Volkswagen Up  is close to being launched in the Indian car market and will be positioned below the Polo to become VW India’s smallest production car. Thanks to diesel cars getting increasingly popular in Indian car market, it is pretty much for sure that the Up diesel will make it to India soon after its debut in its home market.
