VOLKSWAGEN

Polo

The biggest news from the German car maker at the Auto Expo for India is the Polo. The hatchback has been lauded the world over for its smart lines, great engines and nice dynamics. The launch of the Polo will place Volkswagen into the volumes market and give it a chance to make use of ultra hi-tech car plants it recently set up in Chakan – capable of making more than 100,000 cars a year. Volkswagen will announce the price of the highly awaited hatchback. If you are planning  to buy a hatchback, there is every reason for you to wait till the time that happens. The Polo is expected to go on sale in March, 2010.
There isn’t much clarity on which engine options will the car be made available with, however we are expecting a 1.2-litre petrol, and a 1.4 –litre diesel to start with. Both engines may not be very powerful, but make a case for themselves in a market like India. There are talks of bringing in the brilliant 1.2-litre TSI turbo-super chared engine and the 1.6 diesel into the car at a later stage.

Scirocco
The sexy looking hatch built on the Golf platform will be exhibited at the VW pavilion. The Top Gear UK’s Car of the Year is the most technologically the most advanced coupe hatch that VW has ever built.  Powered with the 1.4 TSI petrol and a 2.0 TDI diesel, the car is a hoot to drive, and delightful to look at.

Available with a range of engine including 1.8TSI, 2.0 TSI and 3.6 V6 petrols and a 2.0 TDi in two different states of tune, the Passat CC is also one of the more sporty saloons to drive around. While the chances of the car getting launched in India aren’t very strong, we are sure it has the goods to create a few waves in its segment.

Beetle

VW will surely display their latest India launch and one of their most successful models ever at the Auto Expo 2010. The big machine is supremely accomplished and makes light work of carrying five people in supreme luxury through a variety of terrains.

Tiguan

Expect Volkswagen to exhibit the Tiguan at the Expo. The Tiguan is another headache for the Honda CR-V which has been facing enormous pressure from new entrants in the market like the Toyota Fortuner, the Chevrolet captive and the Mitsubishi Outlander. The Tiguan is an internationally acclaimed small SUV which is sure to hit the Indian shores very soon. The Tiguan is the world’s first SUV on the market fitted exclusively with turbocharged TDI and TSI engines. The Tiguan has four powerful TSI engines from 150 PS to 200 PS and the first four-cylinder common rail TDI of the Volkswagen brand generating 103 140 PS  and 170 PS of power.
The 4MOTION permanent four-wheel drive distributes the entire power optimally between the front and rear suspension and the wheels on each axle. The system detects deviations within fractions of a second and compensates these accordingly. The Tiguan is a genuine off-roading machine and will make a tremendously strong case for itself in its segment.
