Volkswagen Polo 1.2 GT TSI launched @ INR 7.99 lakhs

The much hyped Volkswagen Polo 1.2 GT TSI has been launched in India for INR 7.99 lakhs (ex showroom, Delhi).

The new Polo 1.2 GT TSI is equipped with a 1.2 litres turbo petrol engine and the new arrival becomes the logical successor to the now defunct Polo 1.6 petrol. The new Volkswagen Polo 1.2 GT TSI variant is the sportiest and the most powerful Polo to be on sale in the country. The new Polo GT 1.2 TSI will has a max power output of 105bhp (77 Kw) @ 5000 rpm and a peak torque output of 175 Nm@1500-4100 RPM. The engine comes mated to a 7 speed DSG gearbox. However, there aren’t any paddle shifters on offer. With so much of torque available so lower down the revs, the Polo GT is quick off the block. It is being said that the car is capable of dismissing the 100kmph figure from standstill in less than 10 seconds. The car has a top whack of 190kmph.

To all those who ask “kitna deti hai”, the car comes with an ARAI certified fuel economy of 17.2 kmpl, thanks to a combination of direct petrol injection and forced induction of high compressed air through a turbocharger.

Speaking on the launch of the Volkswagen Polo 1.2 GT TSI, Mr. Arvind Saxena- Managing Director, Volkswagen Passenger Cars India said “In the current market scenario, fuel efficiency has become vital for every customer looking at purchasing a new car. Under these circumstances we strongly feel the need to provide our customer with a choice to opt for an efficient petrol car. The Polo GT TSI is the perfect answer with Maximum Power and Minimum Consumption.

Visually, the new Volkswagen Polo 1.2 GT TSI can be differentiated from the lesser siblings by the GT badges on the grille, rear and GT TSI stickers on the C-Pillar and the footboards. On the inside, the car gets ‘Milan’ Titanschwarz fabric upholstery with grey and black interior panels, with the gear knob and handbrake lever getting leather treatment. The car also gets illuminated door sills and sporty aluminium pedals. Interior cooling is taken care by a “Climatronic’ automatic air conditioning system with dust and pollen filter. In car entertainment includes two Din RCD 320 4 speaker music system with USB, SD Card, Bluetooth and Auxiliary inputs.

The Polo GT TSI rides on 15 inch “Estrada” alloy wheels that wear 180/60 section tires. Safety features include Electronic Stabilization Programme (ESP), ABS, Dual frontal air bags for driver and co-passenger, electronic engine immobilizer with floating code, 3 point front seat belts and pinch guard safety for all 4 power windows.

Available in 3 colours viz. Candy White Flash Red, Deep Black, the Volkswagen Polo 1.2 TSI in all probability would become a rival to the upcoming Fiat Punto Abarth hot hatchback. The Abarth Punto will be powered by a re-tuned version of the Linea T-Jet’s 1.4 litre turbocharged petrol engine and could have a power output of as much as 180 Bhp, with peak torque output of a stupendous 270 Nm.
