World Rally Championship
Grinning ear to ear while you redline your red Polo TSI? There’s another man grinning in his Polo, as defending champions Sebastien Ogier and Co-driver Julien Ingrassia were victorious in the Polo R at the FIA World Rally Championship, Rally Italia. Following this duo closely were team-mates Jari-Matti Latvala and Miikka Anttila who finished in third after a gripping duel with the winners. The third Volkswagen duo of Andreas Mikkelsen and Ola Floene finished in fourth, not before winning the closing power stage ahead of both their team-mates. Volkswagen now dominates the the WRC standings halfway through the season as Ogier and Ingrassia lead the drivers’ and co-drivers’ standings, while it leads the manufacturers standing by a clear 118 points.
Global Rallycross
Global Rallycross driver Scott Speed representing Andretti Motorsport, in his 600hp Volkswagen Polo R, won gold at the X Games 2014 in Austin, Texas. Scott secured his second victory at the X Games here ahead of Bucky Lasek and Nelson Piquet Jr. With ths win Speed now leads the championship with 54 points.
British Touring Car Championship
Aron Smith driving for team Chrome Edition Restart Racing in a newly developed Volkswagen CC, drove amazingly well to win the fourth race in the British Touring Car Championship held at the Oulton Park in Cheshire. Smth earlier finished the first race in twelfth, eighth in race two and started the third race in pole position.
ATS Formula 3 Cup
Marcus Pommer won races one and three at the Red Bull Ring in Spielberg, Austria. Pommer driving a Volkswagen powered Lotus helped his title aspirations wining the two races, while coming second in race two, to this team-mate Indy Dontje. Pommer now leads the championship with 173 points.
ADAC GT Masters
2013 Volkswagen Scirocco R-Cup champion Kelvin van der Linde and team mate Rene Rast secured second place in their Audi R8, making them the mid-season Champions after 8 of 16 races being completed.
ADAC Formula Masters
Mikkel Jensen won two out of three races from start to finish and heads now into the two month summer break as new leader of the overall standings. It was only in the third race Jensen finished second behind Joel Eriksson.
