India loves affordable compact sedans and carmakers aren’t oblivious to that fact. Maruti Suzuki, Honda, Tata Motors, Hyundai etc. have all come up their respective offerings for this competitive segment. Volkswagen have also got hold of a project which will result in a compact sedan. This car from VW has been going around by the name ‘Bora’ so far, and will for a while till the official name is confirmed.
The upcoming Volkswagen ‘Bora’ will be less than 4 metres long.
If you expect Volkswagen India to price this car at throwaway prices, then don’t. Ze German carmaker hasn’t uttered details on the compact sedan’s price, but stated that it won’t be south of INR 5 lakh. Volkswagen maintains that its offering will have better quality materials and come with more features than rivals. Based on the Polo hatchback, the ‘Bora’ will likely borrow its sibling’s engines too. This means the Volkswagen compact sedan will offer a petrol 1.2-litre 3-cylinder and diesel 1.5-litre 4-cylinder engines. We expect the company to pair the engines with a 5-speed manual gearbox, though a DSG may makes it appearance later.

Volkswagen India could premiere the ‘Bora’ at the 2016 Auto Expo in Delhi. The carmaker had sold 45,000 cars in 2014 and is optimistic of better sales this year.
