Volkswagen Ameo Diesel to launch on September 27, 2016 [Edit: Postponed]

New Volkswagen Ameo Review (97)

UPDATE: The launch of the Ameo diesel has been postponed until further notice.

Volkswagen India is set to launch the Ameo TDi (Ameo diesel) on September 27, 2016 (tomorrow). The Ameo was launched in June 2015, but at the time, a diesel engine option was conspicuous by its absence. Now the German automaker is set to expand the Ameo  line-up with the diesel variant.

The Ameo diesel will be powered by the familiar, 1.5-litre turbo-diesel engine from the VW Polo, Vento and Skoda Rapid. However, the engine has been reportedly run through a few updates for the Ameo, which include a new, locally sourced, larger turbocharger. Which means that its output could be bumped to 110 bhp from 103.5 bhp, making the Ameo the most powerful diesel compact sedan on sale in India.

Just like its petrol variant, the Ameo diesel will also be available in three trim levels – Trendline, Comfortline and Highline. Unlike its petrol sibling, which is only available with a 5-speed manual transmission, the Ameo diesel will offer a choice between a 5-speed manual or a 7-speed DSG automatic transmission. Features and equipment on board are expected to remain similar to the petrol variant.
