Yamaha NV X

VIDEO: Yamaha NV-X spied uncamouflaged; officially teased as a Super Sports Scooter!

Two wheeler manufacturers are getting quite serious with their scooter offerings and are giving these meek machines a makeover they never expected. These new gen scoots are bridging the gap between the bikes and the traditional gearless scooters not only in terms of design but also with performance. One such example being the latest SR150 sports scooter from Aprilia. Now taking the game a notch higher, Yamaha is all geared up to unveil their all new, as they call it, the Super Sports Scooter – Yamaha NV-X.

Last month, Yamaha Motor Vietnam teased their upcoming NV-X scooter and put up two videos on their Youtube channel revealing a host of details. These teasers are a part of a series of videos that the company will release each month till the official launch of the scooter. While the October instalment is still pending and we believe that the video will be out in a week’s time, the Yamaha NVX has been unofficially unveiled! A couple of unmasked Yamaha NV-Xs have been spotted on the streets of Bekasi, Indonesia revealing almost every single detail of the scooter.

The Yamaha NV-X will borrow a host of ‘tech-mech’ from the NM-X scooter but will be positioned below it. It will be power by the same 155cc 4-stroke, SOHC, 4 valve, liquid-cooled engine that propels the NM-X. This single cylinder petrol unit will make 14.8 Bhp at 8,000rpm and 14.4 Nm of torque at 6,000rpm.

As seen from the spy images, the NV-X gets sharp styling reminiscent of the YZF-R3, especially the headlight cluster. In short, for a scooter, it looks fabulous in its blue livery! The rider seems to be riding in an upright position due to the comfy seat and well-placed footboard. The front is assisted by telescopic suspension and the rear gets dual gas-charged shock absorbers. The braking duties are performed by a petal disc setup in the front and a drum brake at the rear. This one rides on blue coloured alloys and reportedly ABS will be offered as standard.

Yamaha’s product portfolio for some South Asian countries already includes 150cc scooters including the Exciter, and the NM-X but with the NV-X the company plans to bring more features to the segment. The feature set offered on this ‘Super Sport Scooter’ will include –

  • A smart key system
  • 25 Litres under seat storage
  • Digital Instrument cluster with 5.8 inch LCD display (tachometer, speedometer, fuel gauge and time)
  • 140mm wide – 14-inch wheel

Many manufacturers had displayed heavy duty scooters, like this one, at the 2016 Auto Expo. The Aprilia SR150 received  a lot of attention at the show and the same was launched in the Indian market. As a new segment has been created by this Italian scooter, we are sure that the competition will start soon! As of now, there is no news that Yamaha may get NV-X in India, but we have our fingers crossed!
