The Crew (2014) promises to be a spectacular and engaging racing video game set in a large open world environment, which involves racing across a digitally re-imagined United States from coast to coast. Developed by Ivory Tower and Ubisoft Reflections and published by Ubisoft for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One (also XBox 360), the game launches today, after Ubisoft released a closed beta of The Crew on the PC for a limited time only, back in July 2014.
The single-player campaign is about 20 hours long, and entails infiltrating criminal groups with protagonist Alex Taylor (Troy Baker), and of course, a lot of driving in exotic machinery on roads and even on the dirt. The Crew gives players to adapt their car’s character according to the terrain they’re driving on, so don’t be surprised if you see a asphalt friendly Porsche Cayman suddenly donning off-road tires and a raised suspension. Apart from that, one can also get involved in mini-games within the game called Skills that are strewn across the world, which are triggered when a player drives through them It entails completing challenges such as weaving through gates and staying as close to a racing line for a period of time.
Missions can be played alone, while the multiplayer mode lets a maximum of eight players to compete in races. Players’ scores are automatically saved so friends can try and beat their scores, analogous to the Autolog system in the latest Need For Speed games. Watch the trailer below (HD mode recommended):
