Upcoming Tata Nano Plus with 1.0 liter Petrol Engine spotted on test in Pune

We reported last month when the news surfaced that Tata Motors will be launching a new Tata Nano Plus with a 3 pot 1.0 liter petrol motor. Now, thanks to our friend and reader Omkar Kulkarni, we have the spy pics of the upcoming Tata Nano Plus. The car was spotted testing in Pune by him. He mentions the engine was silent and cannot be compared in any manner to the current 2 pot petrol engine. He also mentions the car had a better acceleration compared to the current Nano.

Tata Motors recently launched the power steering equipped Nano Twist. Tata Motors is currently trying to bring new variants for the Nano, and are also working on a automatic transmission for the small car.

Powering the  Tata Nano Plus will be a bigger 3 pot 1.0 liter petrol engine that would have a max power of around 60 bhp. The Nano Plus could come with several new additions and features such as front disc brakes, improved aircon, bucket seats, open-able tailgate, new dashboard, LED headlamps and fog lights, revised hood styling etc.

We are on the fast journey in making the transformation, making sure all the fundamentals are in place, in trying to create aspiration around the brand, but a slow journey in making sure we don’t mess (up) on the fundamentals,” a Tata spokesperson had said earlier. “We should see a tipping point in the next six months’ time.

The bigger engined Tata Nano Plus with the power steering would be a perfect city car, and also do the occasional highway runs, thanks to the increased power output.

  1. great news….but it still has 3 lug nuts per wheel…wonder if thats safe with an engine capable of more speed. Also great to see the fatter rubber; hopefully, this is, indeed the 1 liter..
