Regulars here would remember that we recently reported that the Indian subsidiary of BMW intends to bring the GT body variant of the 3 Series to our car market. Now, spy pics of a 3’er GT, testing on Indian soil, have surfaced on the cyber space.
This GT is basically a fastback version of the 3’er sedan and has more space on offer. This will be the second time that BMW India will launch a GT variant of one of its sedan (BMW launched the 5 series GT earlier).
The BMW 5 Series GT was well received by Indian luxury car buying lot and posted decent figures on the sales charts. It seems like the reasonable success that the 5’er GT met with has provided the carmaker with stimulus to bring the 3’er GT to India.
It may be noted that the F30 3 Series has quite a fan following owing to the superb handling, comfortable cabin and the powerful range of petrol and diesel engines it has on offer and the GT variant could very well ride on the popularity of the sedan sibling.
This 3′ er GT is 200mm longer, 19mm wider and is 79mm taller than the sedan variant. The wheelbase too is longer by 110mm, which translates into more legroom for the rear passengers. Thanks to the increased height, the passengers also enjoy more headroom. The car also gets a bigger boot. The tailgate is electrically operated and the rear seats offer 40:20:40 split. The seats can be folded down to increase the already sufficient boot space to an enormous 1600 litres.
The upcoming BMW 3 Series GT will be powered by the six cylinder 3.0 litre diesel motor, which will come mated to an 8 speed automatic transmission. The 3 Series GT will be capable of dismissing 100 kmph mark from standstill in under 8 seconds.
The upcoming BMW 3 Series GT is expected to be priced in the range of Rs 45-50 lakh.
