BMW is on a roll. After pulling the plug on the 1-Series, the German carmaker was quick in readying the replacement, the 2-Series. Now, BMW is trying to fill the gap between the X3 and the X5 by launching a mini X6, with the X4. The X4 has been caught on cam numerous times. BMW is also currently testing the 2016 BMW X6. The BMW  X4 loses the boxy shape, which is currently seen on the X3, and features a sportier stance with a sloping roofline. The design cues appear to be retained from the X4 concept, which was showcased at the Shanghai motor show in April this year. The overall design theme appears to be of a mini X6. On the front, only the lower air vents have been restyled, in comparison the ones on the concept. The kidney grille and headlight design remain the same.

The X4 will ride on the X3 platfrom. Engines options are unkknown, but since it is based on the X3, we expect the engines will be shared too.  The base trim X4 20d will be powered by the 2.0 litre turbo diesel engine, which will have a max power rating of 180 bhp. The X4 30d will be available with the 3.0 litre straight six, outputting 254 bhp. Also, the X4 will be available with rear-wheel and xDrive options.

The BMW X4 will be showcased at the Detroit Motor Show in Januray and will probably reach dealerships early 2014.
